Color Palette

On the Survey Design screen, you can choose the colors you wish for the survey title, the survey text, and the background. This is done with the Color Palette, which allows you to select from a list of preset colors, customize your own color, or indicate a specific color by its hex code.

Custom Key Prompts

For customers who set the Key Type of their surveys to Custom Keys or Custom Username/Key pairs, we offer the option to set the prompts used for each piece of info.

For example, if the Custom Username/Key pairs equated to Student ID and PIN, you could set the key prompt to "PIN Number" and the username prompt to "Student ID," in order to clarify things for your respondents.

Enumeration

Enumeration, on the Survey Design page, simply refers to how your questions will be numbered. The important part of the Enumeration options is the inclusion of a Percent Done indicator, which can improve response rates in long surveys by keeping respondents informed.

Finishing Up

Once you've completed steps 1-4 of survey creation, you can choose to save your survey and continue working elsewhere on the side, or you can immediately activate your survey, online and in real-time, to begin collecting responses. Our online activation system accepts major Credit Cards, and net-30 terms are available to qualified business customers (discounts available to educational/government users as well; please contact us). Your survey will be priced into one of our three premium packages (or BASIC). BASIC surveys (surveys without premium features) can be activated free for 25 responses, for a limited time.

Format

SuperSurvey allows you to set nearly every detail of your survey's appearance and administration -- or you may simply allow SuperSurvey's intelligently designed defaults guide your process.

You can set font, color, and size information for all text that appears as part of your survey. This helps you to brand your surveys and keep your user experience consistent.

Images

You can specify your own, off-site images for your title logo, survey background, and as part of a question or answer, effectively giving you the power to conduct multimedia surveys.

You should enter the URL of the image to include like this:

http://www.mysite.cxm/images/mylogo.jpg
(Please remember you are bound by the User Agreement to take responsibility for any images or other information you include.)

One important issue currently surrounds images. If you are running a Secure Survey, images stored off SuperSurvey's servers will not work on many browsers. If you have a need for a secure survey with one or more images, please contact us at service@supersurvey.com to discuss solutions, and we will be happy to help you at no additional cost.

Legacy Questions & LOGIQ Editor

For the conveience of long-time users, we are presently retaining the legacy version of the Questions & LOGIQ Editor. New users should see the section for the new Questions & LOGIQ Editor, which offers significant speed and function benefits.

The heart of your survey is in the Questions and LOGIQ page. At its core is a page-based model for laying out questions. First, you define questions, then put them on one or more pages, and finally add logical skip conditions, if necessary. You can follow this simple procedure to add questions to your survey:

  1. Add one or more questions to your Questionbank by clicking "Add Question" and following the steps in Question Editor.
  2. If needed, add pages to Your Survey by clicking "Add Page" below. (NOTE: BASIC surveys are limited to using one numbered page)
  3. Move questions from Questionbank to Your Survey by highlighting the Page Number and the Question Text, and clicking "Add to Survey".
  4. LOGIQ™ conditions can be set in Your Survey for one qualifying question per page (specifically, multiple-choice questions with only one answer possible, or pull-down box questions with only one answer possible). Simply specify which page to "skip to" for each answer within that question (by default, all pages go to the next page unless "skip to" conditions dictate otherwise). For more on LOGIQ™, please see Why LOGIQ?.
  5. Questions can be moved around within a page by clicking the up and down arrow boxes on each question in Your Survey. Clicking the "X" box will return a question to your Questionbank.
Don't forget to Save your work after making changes.

Password & Keys

Access control for surveys is effected through selecting a key type. Five key types are available to set exactly the level of access you require:

Percent Done Indicator

One of the Survey Design options, under Enumeration, is the inclusion of a "Percent Done" indicator with your survey. Including such an indicator in longer web-based surveys has been shown in trials to increase response rates significantly -- it's one of the small but important things that SuperSurvey offers to ensure optimum results.

The survey is
78% completed

In keeping with expert recommendations, the SuperSurvey Percent Done indicator is small (not an image download) and renders either textually or graphically in all browsers

Powered By Logo

The "Powered By" logo is optional for paid accounts, but is displayed on all our free surveys.

Premium Features

To help you determine what features count as Premium features for billing purposes, we include this icon:

Your survey will be priced at the package level corresponding to your feature usage. You can always check on feature use and package status from the "Details" link in My Surveys, or on the first page of survey activation. To see which features are part of which package, please refer to our current pricing.

Preview

To help you make good decisions about your survey before you activate it, we offer highly informative question and survey previewing.

If a survey has not been previewed since being edited, please allow up to 30 seconds for the preview to be compiled and made available.

You must be logged-in as the owner of a survey in order to view the preview. If you need the ability to have colleagues, clients, or managers see your survey Preview without having them log into your account, use the PreviewShare option from My Surveys.

PreviewShare

Normally, only the owner of a survey may view a survey Preview, and must be logged in. If you need to share a Preview with others, choose the PreviewShare option from My Surveys.

When PreviewShare is enabled for a given survey, a URL is provided that you can give to your colleagues permitting them to view previews. This link will work whether or not the survey is active, and it will work just like the ordinary Preview (results not stored). Your colleagues need not be logged in, and will not have access to any other part of your account.

Your colleagues must have cookies enabled in order to use PreviewShare. If, at any point, you wish to disable PreviewShare for a given survey, the link will no longer permit access.

Privacy

SuperSurvey takes Privacy seriously -- for you and for your respondents. One premium feature we offer is our service as third-party "honest broker" for Anonymous surveys. An Anonymous survey is run under our SuperSurvey Privacy Protocol, and requires that the survey owner agree not to attempt to determine any respondent's identity and accept liability for intentional breaches of privacy. Survey owners are also encouraged to include a privacy statement and/or link to their own privacy policy for data collected from the Anonymous survey.

SuperSurvey, in turn, takes care to discard and strip away possibly identifying information from Anonymous surveys. Specifically, all IP address information is stripped away, and invitation email addresses are not resolvable to individual responses. To help reassure respondents, Anonymous surveys include a "click to verify" Anonymous icon which checks the survey's privacy status against our databases and returns a verification page only for verified Anonymous surveys.

Please note that Anonymous surveys are premium (SILVER and above) and requires the survey owner to specifically request the Anonymous survey be run under the SuperSurvey Privacy Protocol. Survey makers are otherwise free to collect personally identifiable information.

Question Editor

Question Editor walks you through the process of specifying one of the four types (Multiple Choice, Open Response, Pull-down, and Matrix) of questions. The Question Editor is color-coded to simplify your process:

Checkboxes for advanced features that we recommend be put into place are pre-checked.

A brief description of some of the advanced features is below. Remember, you can always preview a question to see the effect of the changes.

QuestionBank

The QuestionBank permits you to copy in a question from any survey in your account.

Merely select add from QuestionBank™ within the Questions & LOGIQ Editor, and a small window will appear listing your surveys.

For each survey, a list of its questions appears (for the current survey, only those questions that are not assigned to a page [for example, orphan questions from a deleted page] will appear. Select the question you want and it will be added to your current survey at the position at which you selected add from QuestionBank™.

Questions & LOGIQ

The Questions & LOGIQ page offers a page-based model for organizing your survey. You can add questions, including copying existing questions or importing questions from other surveys, and arrange them on one or more pages. Once arranged, you can add skip logic (LOGIQ) to control flow.

  1. Add one or more questions to your survey by clicking "Add Question" and following the steps in Question Editor. Alternatively, you may import a question from another survey by using the QuestionBank.
  2. If needed, add pages by clicking "Add Page" between existing pages. (NOTE: BASIC surveys are limited to using one numbered page. The "Final Message" at the end of your survey does not count as a page for this purpose.)
  3. Move questions within a page or between pages.
  4. Question-based LOGIQ™ conditions can be set in Your Survey for one qualifying question per page (specifically, multiple-choice questions with only one answer possible, or pull-down box questions with only one answer possible). Click on the default link at the right of the relevant answer; this will show drop-down boxes for setting the next page if that answer is selected.
  5. By default, each survey flows to the next page. However, to permit complex LOGIQ routes, you may change the default next page. Use this in conjunction with question-based LOGIQ conditions for setting up complex skip logic.
Don't forget to Save your work after making changes.

Save

SuperSurvey™ stores all survey data on our powerful, secure servers, which means that you never have to download software to use our services. This means that changes you make in a survey must be saved to our system in order to be preserved.

Because of the importance of saving your work, we have taken a number of measures to make this easy to do. You can always save your work in Survey Editor by clicking the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the each page. When navigating between pages in Survey Editor, you are prompted to save your work as well. Finally, we have a time-based auto-save prompt which prompts you to save changes at a set interval.

Security

For added security and privacy for both you and your respondents, you can opt to conduct your survey under Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security. SuperSurvey™ is certified by VeriSign, Inc. as a Secure Site. Security is a Premium features for surveys (GOLD package).

SSL is the standard encryption protocol used for financial and credit card transactions on the web. Your survey will be protected by a minimum 40-bit key -- the maximum export level permitted under U.S. law.

Secure surveys require that respondents use a security-enabled browser. This means that a few low-end browsers (such as Opera and Lynx) may be unable to take a secure survey, but mainstream browsers such as Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer are all able to take secure surveys.

Please note: SuperSurvey cannot recommend the transmission of confidential, financial, or medical information on non-secure surveys! Customers expecting such information are strongly advised to use SSL security on their surveys.

Survey Design

Survey Design allows you to set general attributes about your survey's appearance. All settings on the Survey Design page are optional; that is, you may leave all the settings as-is for a standard, clean look. However, SuperSurvey is proud to offer a highly customizable survey experience -- you can control nearly every aspect of your survey's appearance and administration.

From Survey Design, some of your options include:

After you've specified the appearance details, you can Preview the general look. Then it's time to Save and move on to Questions & LOGIQ.

Title

The title of your survey will be the primary way to identify it both to yourself (in your list on the My Surveys page) and to respondents (who will see it when they take the survey). You can specify if you want the title to appear on only the first page, or on all pages. You may also include an image, such as a corporate logo, with your title.

Why LOGIQ?

Why use LOGIQ™ conditions to determine survey flow? After all, consistency in survey administration is the key to good results, and "skip to" conditions change the survey experience, right?

Yes -- and No.

"Skip to" conditions do change the survey experience among different takers. But such differences in experience are sometimes unimportant compared to the benefits derived from using "skip to" LOGIQ™. For example, in very long surveys, forcing survey takers to wade through long, irrelevant sections that don't apply to them can have two bad effects: it can cause people to quit taking the survey (nonresponse) and it can cause people to start entering bad data to get through quickly or to answer questions that don't apply to them (quality).

LOGIQ™ is provided primarily as a service to customers doing high-end survey projects, where "skip to" conditions are part of the protocol. But if you're creating a long survey (more than 10 minutes per completion), or if you're creating a survey which has lots of questions that apply only to certain respondents, you should consider using LOGIQ™ to improve your survey's experience and your data.
