Basic View

Basic View is the box at the top of the Results Viewer main page. It is meant to give you easy, one-click access to most of the results layouts you might need.

From Basic View, you can choose to

Conditions

A powerful tool in extracting answers from your dataset is the use of Conditions. A conditions is basically a "WHERE" type statement such as this:

The question and corresponding answer in the sentence above are specified in the Conditional Analysis box. You may set up to three such question-based conditions in Conditional Analysis, in the boxes that say "and where:". (Please note that when specifying which answer you are filtering on, some browsers give you a box with very small "up" and "down" arrows!)

Other conditions you can add are the Duplicate Filter and specifying which Respondent IDs to include.

All conditions which you are currently applying to a given results view are displayed at the top of the page under the header "Applied Conditions." In addition, you can set which layout you wish to see (Results Summary, Graphs, or Raw Results), and what Questions or Non-Question Data you wish to include.

Download

Results can be downloaded in CSV (Comma Separated Values) format, which is compatible with nearly every statistical, database, and spreadsheet program (including Microsoft Access and Excel, SPSS, and Stata). Just right-click on "Download all raw results" from the Basic View screen, and choose "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..."

After downloading, in most statistical, spreadsheet, or analysis programs, you can open CSV files using a procedure similar to the following:

  1. Open the application first, and make a new file.
  2. From the File menu, choose Import.
  3. Set the file types to show to "All".
  4. Select the file that you've saved.
  5. If prompted for the filetype or delimiter, choose "CSV" or "Comma-Separated".
If you have any difficulties with downloading results, please don't hesitate to write to support@supersurvey.com.

Duplicate Filter

One of the Conditions you can apply in Results Viewer is our proprietary Duplicate Filtering algorithm. Using the Duplicate Filter helps to eliminate cases of possible survey misuse by cutting out responses that appear to be duplicates. You can enable Duplicate Filtering by checking the box at the bottom of the Conditional Analysis page, or clicking the link at the top of the Raw Results page.

While the method of the Duplicate Filter is proprietary, it uses time of response, response content, and IP addresses to help spot patterns of misuse. The algorithm is updated periodically to improve its effectiveness. Please note that if you are administering many surveys from a fixed number of computers at one location, such as holding an in-house CAPI (Computer Aided Personal Interview) survey, the Duplicate Filter might give erroneous results.

Graphs

SuperSurvey can automatically graph results from Results Summary. Just apply whichever conditions you wish, view as Results Summary, and click the "graph" icon next to the question text.

SuperSurvey opens a new window and automatically presents the available types of graph for the type of question (for example, a pie graph is only appropriate for single-answer multiple choice). You can select from the following options:

Finally, you can download your graphs as PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format. If you need your graphs changed into another format, or have any other questions regarding graphing, please let us know at support@supersurvey.com.

Non-Question Data

The following Non-Question Data are collected and can be viewed with your results:

Preview Survey

Survey Previewing is accessible from Results Viewer because it sometimes becomes useful for a survey owner to view a question in its context to fully understand the responses to it. And because of our commitment to good methodology, we want to ensure that our customers have the best resources available not only for creating good surveys, but understanding the results as well.

If a survey has not been previewed since being activated, please allow up to 30 seconds for the preview to be compiled and made available.

Raw Results

Viewing Raw Results allows you to see every respondent's answer to every question on your survey. You can view Raw Results by clicking the "View All Raw Results" link in the Basic View box, or by choosing "Raw Results" from the "Show Me" box at the top of Conditional Analysis.

The advantage to viewing in the Raw format is that you can see all the data in one table in one window. However, the document can be very large and possibly unwieldly, so you may wish to view Results Summaries or another more concise format. While viewing Raw Results, you can also apply Conditions, including the Duplicate Filter.

Refresh (Reload)

Click Refresh to make certain that the data you are viewing reflect the latest results. It is preferable to use the Refresh icon in Results Viewer, rather than your browser's refresh/reload button, to avoid conflicts between your browser and the server.

Respondent IDs

Respondent IDs are numbers which are used internally in SuperSurvey's software to identify respondents. They may seem confusing to survey owners: they do not start at 1, and they do not necessarily go in order.

Why do we include Respondent IDs, then? The answer is that they help us keep track of response data and assist in enhancing the privacy of respondents for Anonymous surveys, and they give you a specific, constant identifier by which you can refer to a respondent (in Conditional Analysis, for example).

Results Monitor

Exclusively from SuperSurvey™, survey owners can view updates on their survey's responses, in real-time, on the desktop. Just click on "Open Results Monitor" from the Results Viewer main page, and a small window will stay open on your desktop which will update you at a set interval if any new responses are received.

Results Summary

The Summary format for results viewing performs a quick tabulation on each question, and includes a mini-bar graph with numbers and percentages, where possible. In Results Summary format, you may choose to Graph the question's results and/or view any free-input type responses.

The benefits to Summary format are many: speed, easy at-a-glance data review, and quick percentages. However, if you have a more complex question type, such as a multiple choice with fill-in "other" boxes, you may have to view Raw Results in order to understand your responses thoroughly.
