A church survey asks the people who worship at a church how things are working for them: the services, the welcome, care, communication and the building. These 15 questions ask first how often each person comes, so every answer can be read by attendance. They open ready to edit in our questionnaire creator.

Send it to everyone who comes

Send one link to everyone who worships with you, the once-a-month attenders as much as the regulars. Nothing asks for a name, so say in the invitation who can open the answers and that results are shared as group totals.

Read every answer split by question 1: people who came all four weekends and people who came once are describing different churches. Put the number of people beside every percentage.

If the building scores low, the facility survey questions go further into the hall and the parking lot. Giving itself, and why people give, belongs to the donor survey questions. A youth group or food bank judged against its own aim needs the program evaluation questions. A club with paid members and renewal dates is better served by the membership survey.

Church survey FAQ

What questions should you ask in a church survey?

Start with who is answering: how often they come, for how long and whether they serve. Then ask about what the church can change, from the services and the welcome to the building. For one retreat or service day, send an event feedback survey instead.

How do you ask about attendance in a church survey?

Ask people to count a recent stretch. Question 1 asks how many of the last four weekends they came. People answering alone, as they do here, feel less pull toward the answer that sounds best than they do with an interviewer.[1]

How do you get more people to answer a church survey?

Keep it open for at least four to six weeks and remind people along the way, in the bulletin, the newsletter and the announcements at services.[2] Tell them how long it takes: about four minutes.
